Vintage Japanese Horai/Penglai Scroll Painting

I will begin here with a most classic style of Japanese painting, the san-sui style. And of those the most interesting to me are the Horai-san scroll paintings, which come from the Chinese legend of Penglai-shan, the mystical mountain rising out from the sea, where the 8 Immortals are said to come from.

Here is a beautiful rendition of Horai-san. This is a vintage Japanese hanging scroll painting on silk with silk/cloth fabric mounting. Size is approx. 21" x 76". Being vintage, of course it has spots & stains, wrinkling & creasing. This is the very nature of scroll paintings that are used, especially in a humid environment such as Japan.

This Japanese scroll painting has been SOLD.
